Roses

My roses have bloomed. I picked some to place on my bedside table. They are an old type of rose so they are very fragrant! I figured I better pick them before the next batch of hard rain comes and beats the petals off.

veggie garden

I simply love getting in the veggie garden this beautiful may morning. My spinach and lettuces aren't growing like they need to.... this morning, I planted more spinach, salad bowl, buttercrisp, and romaine. Can't wait to be able to pick a salad for lunch!

Baseball

We've enjoyed watching Andrew play baseball this spring. Today Elkins played Greenland but to no avail....still, it was a beautiful day for baseball. Next game is friday night at 7:30.

May

Ok, I've been terrible at keeping this up to date. But, in my defense, I've been busy. : )
Uncle Hubert had his surgery for colon cancer and they were able to remove it all!!!
He has been back in the hospital though.... but home again and hoping he is on the mend!
We've got the garden in and I hope it does well this year. I'm excited to have fresh produce!
Flower have begun to bloom and birds are migrating. So far, I've captured a picture of a scarlet tanager and my hummingbirds, but I saw an oriole today.

snow, really?

It is in the 60's today, clear blue sky and they are calling for 1-3 inches of snow tomorrow??
Crazy! It has been another full week, but a good one. I had injections tuesday and today feel that I've recovered rather well from those. Hubert had a horrible diagnosis of colon cancer this week so it has been a whirlwind of emotions. But, before the snow blankets the ground tomorrow, I thought I'd show a few early spring flowers arriving in the back yard.

Mercy

We had the opportunity to hear the testimony of a woman from the Volta region of Ghana. The religious culture of her area believes young girls must be given to the fetish priests to live in their shrines some from the age of 5. They were offered to appease the gods of their families' sins. These girls were used as sex and labor slaves. International Network has been working to free as many slaves as possible by talking with the priests about finding a more appropriate sacrifice for the gods. Mercy, a name she gave herself since her freedom, told of her experience. It was very interesting and riveting. She has been taught to sew and she made the dress she was wearing. Mercy is in the blue dress, the lady next to her is her interpreter.

Spring...maybe?

LOVE, LOVE this weather! We got lettuce, spinach, onions and garlic in the garden. I got the hydrangea bush in at the crest of the wildflower bed and because of the generosity of my Mom, we planted caladiums, two types of dahilas, and a peony that I had been "eying". She also gave us the most beautiful deep grape shaded clematis, but we didn't get it in the ground yet. Closer to the last frost, we'll plant the morning glory seeds. I'm excited about all the new color we'll have around the yard.
I can't list all that we've done in the past week or, for that matter, all the things left to do (ha ha).
But, I love the summer tanagers waking me up with their songs outside our bedroom windows- sounds like spring.

Determination

I was so moved by Joyce Meyer's program this morning! She spoke on being determined. It is so true that we won't get anywhere or get much accomplished if we aren't determined. Last year, I posted on my wall the word "Intentional" with the definition to remind me to live intentionally- be intentional with my relationships, with God....
Determination is the next step. We must be determined people. Determined to be healthy, determined to have everything that Christ died to give us, determined to keep a clean house, determined to see my prayers answered. This could be used for SO MANY things!
So, I'm declaring now that I will never give up and I will be a person of determination. Wow, that's better than any new year's resolution.

God's goodness

I tell you what, God is good. We were ready to try to find a new truck- not a "new" one but new to us, understand. Last weekend, God showed us a 4 wheel drive truck that was not only in our price range, but was truly the desire of Steven's heart. We pray it is covered in God's protection and favor. We're grateful to God for His provision and wisdom through the years that enabled this to happen. Glory to God.
Now we are trusting God to help sell Steven's white truck... know anyone interested?

Eagle sighting

We saw two eagles on our way to Eureka yesterday afternoon! Hopefully soon we can get out on the boat to go watch for them (once all the ice is off the lake).

The hopes of a garden

ah, in between chores around the house this morning I'm talking with the home econ group about a seed exchange and looking over the UofA extension pages on frost dates and monthly garden to-do guides! love it!
Last week, we received a Burpee seed catalog! I have to admit it was my bedtime reading material. ha ha. I've got to sit down and plan the garden and order seeds!
Now, we need some calm weather on a weekend so Steven and I can get outside and get started on prepping the garden.

NEW YEAR

Ok, I know it's been a while since I've posted. I've been preoccupied. I had minor surgery to remove an ovarian cyst two weeks before Christmas, so I've been focused on recovery. Two days before getting my stitches out I cut the tip of my thumb off while chopping onions to make chili. So now I am learning to slowly do things without the use of that thumb as it heals.

But, this is a new year with new hope, faith and expectations of good things from God.
Here are a picture of today's snow.
